Getting started
- Drag Stacker Pro to Applications and launch it from there.
- Turn on Accessibility when asked (System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility). Stacking other apps’ windows cannot work without it.
- Open two or more windows in an app, then create a stack from Stack Studio or the floating suggestion.
If Accessibility looks enabled but nothing stacks, quit Stacker Pro fully (Command-Q), toggle the Accessibility checkbox off and on, then reopen the app.
App stacks and custom stacks
An app stack is every stacked window from one open app (Chrome, Notes, Finder, and so on). A custom stack is a saved mix of windows you picked, including across apps. Open a saved custom stack later from Stack Studio, the menu bar, or a stacker-pro:// link.
The floating + only appears on a window that is not already in the live stack. Click it once to add that window.
The switcher
The attached switcher sits on the stack. Click a window in it to bring that window forward. Control-` (configurable) cycles the stack. Number shortcuts jump to a slot when enabled in Settings → Keyboard.
If the widget is missing, use Show Switchers in the menu bar, or Recover Stacks if the stack says Paused.
Sleep, displays, Recover
After sleep or plugging in a display, stacks usually rebuild themselves. If a stack stays Paused or the widget is stuck on the old screen, choose Recover Stacks from the Stacker Pro menu, the menu bar, or Stack Studio.
Known limits
- Stage Manager can hide or detach the switcher. Focus a stacked window, or turn Stage Manager off on that Space.
- Fullscreen / Spaces fullscreen windows stay in the stack but are poor widget anchors. Exit fullscreen for the switcher to attach normally.
- Reliability follows the other app. Stacker Pro uses Accessibility. Some apps expose windows cleanly; some do not. That is a macOS limit, not a cloud feature.
- macOS 15+ only. Not sold on the Mac App Store.
Trial, license, updates
A 14-day trial starts on first launch. Buy a $20 lifetime license on the site; you will get a STKR1 code from licenses@ryanloechner.com. Paste it in Settings → License. Updates install in-app via Sparkle.
